1923 Sydney Sovereign PCGS MS62
There are a number of well-known ultra-rarities in the George V series. Some are more affordable than others, but all are rare. Of the later George V “melt rarities”, the 1923-S sovereign is probably the hardest or second-hardest date (after the million-dollar 1920-S sovereign, of course). It’s more difficult than the popular 1926-S sovereign, in my view, and certainly harder than the 1922-M sovereign. The coin photographed above was sourced from a Singaporean collection, and is only the second example of this date that I’ve had in stock in the last eight years. It’s sharply struck, lustrous, and free from significant bag marks or hairlines. On the whole, it’s an attractive example of this ultra-rare date, and one of the nicest I’ve seen on the market for some time. Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
