1856 Sydney Mint Sovereign PCGS AU55
The 1856 Sydney Mint Sovereign is very scarce in any grade, but particularly rare in PCGS AU55. This particular example has residual bloom in devices, great eye appeal, and strong hairlines, and is one of the nicest 1856 Sydney Mints I’ve seen in a long time. Equal finest graded by PCGS (January 2013), and far more scarce than the 1855 Sydney Mint in equivalent grade. From the collection of John Wilson, dispersed in 2008. Catalogues $19,500 in EF and $110,000 in about UNC. Professional Coin Grading Service is the global leader in coin authentication and grading. With over 60 million coins graded and counting, PCGS is trusted by collectors, dealers, and investors to certify authenticity, protect value, and elevate market confidence. This is a direct conversion of the 70-point PCGS grade to a 10-point scale, intended to present the grade in a more intuitive format for newer collectors. It is not our personal opinion or an attempt at regrading the coin to a different standard.
