One of just 745 issued! This 2016 gold proof three coin Sovereign set celebrates Queen Elizabeth II's 90th birthday. She ascended the throne in February 1952 following the death of her father, King George VI. Her coronation in June 1953 was the first such ceremony to be televised, and the following decades of her reign have been similarly characterised by technological advances. The Queen's portrait on these coins obverses is a rare commemorative design by James Butler. Butler made his name as a sculptor but he has worked with the Royal Family before, designing the Great Seal of the Realm in 2001. This one-off effigy features on all the coins in this three coin set which includes a 2016 proof 'full' Sovereign, a 2016 proof Half Sovereign and a 2016 proof Quarter Sovereign. Each of the coins' reverses shows the classic St George and the dragon design, created by Benedetto Pistrucci for the first modern Sovereigns, issued in 1817. The coins in this highly collectable set are composed of 22-carat gold, with a total weight of 13.98 grams and a combined pure gold weight of 0.4119 troy ounces. This pre-owned set is offered in its original packaging from The Royal Mint with a numbered certificate of authenticity. Legally exempt from VAT and Capital Gains Tax for UK residents.
