2014 UK Piedfort Silver Proof Annual 6 Coin Set
The commemorative coins in this pre-owned collection mark a number of important anniversaries in British history and are struck in piedfort style, which is double the thickness of normal coinage. First up, the Five Pound with a timeless traditional design by Mark Richards, celebrates the legacy of the last Stuart queen, Anne I. This coin was struck to coincide with the 300th anniversary of her death. The next coins are a pair of Two Pound coins, with one looking back at our maritime history with the 500th anniversary of Trinity House and the other one marking a century since the outbreak of the First World War. The latter has an imposing portrait of Lord Kitchener, famously associated with the 'YOUR COUNTRY NEEDS YOU' recruitment poster. Another pair of coins are next, with the two One Pound coins in this sterling silver piedfort set paying tribute to Scotland and Northern Ireland, inspired by Timothy Noad. Rounding out the group is a piedfort silver Fifty Pence piece commemorating the XX Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. All the coins in this set feature Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. In use from 1998, this fourth definitive effigy of the Queen would be swapped out in 2015 for Jody Clark's profile of Her Majesty. That makes this Royal Mint set among the last to feature the fourth portrait. UK piedfort silver sets come in beautiful glossy black presentation cases with each coin individually encapsulated, allowing the owner to appreciate each piece without direct handling. A detailed information booklet and a certificate of authenticity are enclosed. Available with free delivery to UK addresses.
