Completed 2012 London Olympics set featuring 29 BU coins in their original wallets. In 2012 London became the first city to host the Summer Olympic Games for the third time, previously having previously hosted the games in 1908 and 1948. We Brits did pretty well, coming third in the medal table behind the US and China. To commemorate the XXX Olympiad The Royal Mint The Royal Mint released a sought-after collection of 50ps, tributes to of the 29 official sports of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The reverses of these 2011 coins were chosen with a national competition resulting in dynamic and varied contributions from many first-time coinage artists. Included are Fifty Pence pieces celebrate Aquatics, Athletics, Archery, Badminton, Basketball, Boccia, Boxing, Canoeing, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Football, Goalball, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Modern Pentathlon, Rowing, Sailing, Shooting, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wheelchair Rugby, Wresting Also included: a 2012 Completer Medallion bearing the logo for the games and ‘2012 LONDON’. Each of the coins has the specifications of a circulating 50p, improved with an attractive Brilliant Uncirculated (BUnc) finish. Ian Rank-Broadley’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II appears on their obverse. The coins in this set are all still encased in their original cards of issue, the pieces themselves protected by plastic.
