This pre-owned 2006 silver piedfort proof 6 coin set is issued by the UK's Royal Mint and makes an excellent gift choice for the coin collector in your life. Unlike other silver proof sets for 2006, this edition has the six one-off commemorative designs issued in double-thick coins. 'Piedfort' is French, which literally translates as 'heavy foot', but in the context of numismatics is used to describe double-weight coinage. Each commemorative coin features a unique design and is struck in sterling silver to a high-quality proof finish, better than the coins you'll find in your change. The stand-out coins in this set are the 2006 Queen's 80th Birthday £5 Crown, the pair of Isambard Kingdom Brunel Two Pound coins depicting his portrait and Paddington Station, the solitary One Pound coin paying tribute to the Egyptian Arch bridge in Northern Ireland and a pair of 50 Pences showing the Victoria Cross and a wounded soldier. A variety of Royal Mint artists and engravers are responsible for these designs: Danuta Solowiej-Wedderburn, Robert Evans, Rod Kelly, Edwina Ellis, Clive Duncan and Claire Aldridge. All these coin designs are paired with Ian Rank-Broadley's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, which is the fourth official British coin effigy of the monarch. No official edition limits are known for this particular set, but no more than 5,000 would have been authorised given the £2 and £5 issue limits. The coins are offered in an attractive black presentation box with the individual coins sealed in their capsules for added protection. It's recommended that the coins are left in their capsules to preserve their finish. A detailed information booklet and the set's original numbered certificate of authenticity are also enclosed. Free insured UK shipping is included in our price, and we can offer a very competitive flat fee for international deliveries.
