'Piedfort' is French, which literally translates as 'heavy foot', but in the context of numismatics is used to describe double-weight coinage. Each commemorative coin features a unique design and is struck in sterling silver to a high-quality proof finish, better than the coins you'll find in your change. The stand-out coins in this set are the 2006 Queen's 80th Birthday £5 Crown, the pair of Isambard Kingdom Brunel Two Pound coins depicting his portrait and Paddington Station, the solitary One Pound coin paying tribute to the Egyptian Arch bridge in Northern Ireland and a pair of 50 Pences showing the Victoria Cross and a wounded soldier. A variety of Royal Mint artists and engravers are responsible for these designs: Danuta Solowiej-Wedderburn, Robert Evans, Rod Kelly, Edwina Ellis, Clive Duncan and Claire Aldridge.
