2002 South Africa Natura Cheetah Four Coin Gold Proof Set
Four coin gold proof cheetah Natura set from the South African Mint featuring 1oz, 1/2oz, 1/4oz and 1/10oz proof coins. The Natura range was launched by the SA Mint in 1994, becoming South Africa's first 24-carat gold coin series. These sought-after coins take inspiration from the wildlife of the country. These 2002 coins are the first in a new collection titled 'Wild Cats of Africa' and feature the cheetah, the world's fastest land mammal. They are also the first coins in the Natura series to feature unique reverse designs for each denomination. Natanya Van Niekerk's designs show a cheetah in a tree, bringing down an antelope, drinking water and relaxing with its cubs. The obverses, all the same and designed by A L Sutherland show the head of this 'fast, furious and fascinating wildcat'. These coins are struck in 999.9 gold with a fine proof finish. They are legal tender in South Africa, denominated R100, R50, R20 and R10 respectively. This pre-owned set is offered in its original green leather display case from the SA Mint. The coins are presented in individual capsules and a numbered certificate of authenticity is enclosed. Just 1,000 of these cheetah Natura sets were issued in 2002 and this represents a rare opportunity to buy from a UK seller.
