1996 Decimal Day Anniversary Silver Proof Set
Seven coin 1996 silver proof set, commemorating the 25th anniversary of Decimal Day. A quarter of a century from Decimalisation Day, The Royal Mint celebrated the anniversary with a collectable set, featuring .925 sterling silver versions of the UK's decimal coinage. Only 15,000 of these pre-owned sets were ever issued. They include a One Pound coin, a Fifty pence, a Twenty pence, a Ten Pence, a Five Pence, a Two Pence and a Penny. All bear Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. The majority of the designs featured on the reverse of these coins are the work of Christopher Ironside, including the classic image of Britannia that appears on the 50p. The exceptions are the Celtic Cross £1 and the Tudor Rose 20p. These silver issues of 1996's definitive UK coinage arrive in the original presentation case, complete with the Mint's certificate.
