1993 saw the release of blockbuster films such as Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List. It also saw a Royal milestone, with the fortieth anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. To celebrate this, The Royal Mint included a special commemorative Five Pound Crown in the annual proof set. The special Crown features obverse and reverse designs by Robert Elderton, one side is inspired by Mary Gillick’s first portrait of Her Majesty which was featured on coins after her coronation, while the other side displays St Edward’s Crown and forty trumpets. It was the ninth commemorative crown to be struck during The Queen’s reign. Alongside this large coin are seven others, all representing the coins used in circulation at that time. These include a £1 (featuring the Royal Coat of Arms), a 50p, a 20p, a 10p, a 5p, a 2p, and a 1p. They are all struck from the same alloys as the coins in regular circulation at that time, from brass to cupro-nickel. However, they are finished in proof quality which is a higher standard due to being struck twice by hand-finished dies. The designs on proof coins are more defined and the finish shinier. As well as a leaflet giving more information about each of the coins, this set comes with the original blue leatherette outer case and clear acrylic inner case. This means both the reverse and obverse of the coins are visible without handling and risking damage. Some of the coins may have experienced toning, this is common for coins which were issued several years ago. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
