1989 UK Premium Proof Annual 9 Coin Set
Complete your set of 1989 coins is with this annual set from The Royal Mint. The two £2 coins featured in this collection were not issued for general circulation, and only struck in proof quality. They are special commemorative editions, designed to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Claim of Right and Bill of Rights, which dictated the power of the monarchy, the right to free elections, and who could impose taxation, among many other directives. The reverse of these Two Pounds were designed by John Lobban, while the obverse of all the coins in this annual set depicts Raphael Maklouf’s official portrait of The Queen. The One Pound features a Scottish thistle and diadem, and the Fifty Pence features Britannia. Also included are a Twenty Pence, Ten Pence, Five Pence, Two Pence, and One Pence. They are all struck in the same alloys as regular circulating coinage, such as nickel-brass and cupro-nickel, but finished to a higher proof standard with carefully monitored conditions, blanks, and dies. Proof standard coins are also covered in a clear lacquer and displayed in a presentation case to avoid handling. These coins are presented in an acrylic case which means both the obverse and reverse of the coins are visible without removing them from their protective casing and risking damage. They come in their original red leather presentation display case. Some of the coins may have experienced toning, this is common for coins which were issued several years ago.
