Issued by The Royal Mint, this 2022 Brilliant Uncirculated Five Pound Coin commemorates the 40th birthday of HRH Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. It’s the first time the Duke of Cambridge has had a UK coin specifically dedicated to him, although the Channel Islands issued commemorative coins to celebrate his 21st birthday in 2003. At the time of this coin’s issue, Prince William was the Duke of Cambridge, however he is now the Prince of Wales in light of him now being King Charles III’s heir apparent. The portrait of Prince William on the coin’s obverse was designed by Royal Mint engraver, Thomas Docherty. It nicely complements the obverse design, which features the late Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Jody Clark. Specifications are a weight of 28.28 grams, a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and a cupronickel alloy.
