2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games Team Scotland Coloured Fifty Pence Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder
Birmingham hosted the XXII Commonwealth Games in 2022, and The Royal Mint celebrated the occasion with the issue of a number of limited edition coloured Fifty Pence coins. Like previous years, the Mint released different editions corresponding to each of the home nations, with this pre-owned brilliant uncirculated version celebrating Team Scotland. This collectable 50p coin is issued in the original Royal Mint packaging and has a limited edition presentation of 5,000. Birmingham was chosen to host the games in 2017, and a total of 5,054 athletes from 72 different countries participated. Australia topped the medal table with 67 gold medals, with Scotland improving on their 2018 performance by finishing in sixth place with 13 golds. Royal Mint artist Natasha Preece is responsible for the reverse engraving of this UK 50p, and she incorporates the coloured Commonwealth Games Federation logo and the forefront with geometric shapes in the background. The legend reads 'BIRMINGHAM 2022 COMMONWEALTH GAMES' and one can spot the unique Thistle privy mark below it, signifying this coin's association with the Scotland team. This is paired with Jody Clark's portrait of HM Queen Elizabeth II, the fifth UK coin portrait of the late monarch. Your pre-owned coin is struck twice to give a BU finish, with the specifications being a weight of 8.00 grams and a diameter of 27.30 millimetres. It's offered in an attractive coin sleeve, full of interesting information about the Birmingham Games and Team Scotland.
