2021 Team GB Olympic Games Coloured Fifty Pence Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder
A special set of Fifty Pence coins were issued to mark the British Olympic Team's participation at the 2020 Tokyo Games. This edition is the brilliant uncirculated coin, minted in cupro-nickel and featuring a coloured reverse. The Royal Mint had originally announced the release of these collectable 50p coins in January 2020, but the postponement of the Tokyo Games to 2021 caused the release of the coins to be delayed. Despite this, a small number of 2020-dated coins were produced and are visible in the 2020 UK Annual Set; the product on offer here is officially dated 2021. David Knapton was responsible for the reverse design, which shows an array of sporting disciplines, with the 'Team GB' lettering, symbol and Olympic rings coloured in, The date in the centre is '2020', which is a nod to the year in which the games were supposed to be held. The obverse depicts Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which is the fifth definitive UK coin effigy of Her Majesty. You coloured 50p weighs 8.00 grams, measures 27.30 millimetres in diameter and is encased in a limited edition presentation folder.
