The Royal Mint marked the 75th anniversary of the passing of the celebrated author H.G. Wells in 2021 with the release of a number of celebratory Two Pound coins, with this pre-owned edition being the brilliant uncirculated version. Known affectionately as 'The Father of Science Fiction' and the 'Shakespeare of science fiction', Herbert George Wells was born in Bromley, Kent in 1866 and during his lifetime wrote over 50 novels in a range of different genres. He was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature four times and was also known for his commentary on wider society. Experienced coin designer Chris Costello was commissioned by the Mint for this tribute to Wells, and he places two of Wells' creations at the centrepiece of the reverse design: the dreaded Martian Fighting Machine from 'The War of the Worlds' and the inconspicuous Invisible Man. On the outer ring a Roman numeral clock is visible, which is a nod to The Time Machine. On the other side of this £2 coin is the fifth official UK coin effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, which was designed by Jody Clark. Each coin is struck twice during production to give it a BUnc finish, sharper than normal coinage. Specifications of this £2 are 12.00 grams of base metal alloy, with a diameter of 28.40 millimetres. It's offered in the original limited edition packaging, which consists of a Royal Mint slipcase. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
