Pay tribute to the remarkable life of Mahatma Gandhi with this brilliant uncirculated Five Pound Crown coin from The Royal Mint. One of the most influential leaders of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (occasionally misspelt 'Ghandi') was best known for his commitment to non-violence, his civil rights activism in South Africa and his successful campaign for Indian independence. It's the first time that the lawyer and activist has been celebrated on an official Royal Mint coin. It was unveiled during Diwali festivities in 2021 by then Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, Britain's first finance minister of Indian descent. The coin's reverse was created by product designer Helena Glover and features a lotus, the national flower of India symbolising Gandhi's gentle strength. The legend of 'MY LIFE IS MY MESSAGE' is a quote attributed to Gandhi. The obverse shows Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II and the denomination of £5. This is the fifth official UK coin portrait of Her Majesty and was in use from 2015 until 2023. Each limited edition coin is struck twice during the production process to give a BUnc finish. Specifications are a weight of 28.28 grams and a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. Your collectable, pre-owned UK coin is housed in the original slipcase packaging from The Royal Mint, which includes interesting details about the life and achievements of the father of the Indian nation.
