2021 Alice's Adventures In Wonderland Five Pound Coloured Brilliant Uncirculated Mint Pack Coin
Limited edition of just 15,000! This brilliant uncirculated Five Pound coin celebrates Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and has special colour printing on the 'tails' side. The famous work of Victorian literature follows a young girl named Alice after she falls down a rabbit hole and encounters a world populated by fantastical creatures. Published in 1865, the book has never been out of print and has has a major impact on fantasy and children's literature as well as being adapted for the stage and screen. This pre-owned coin, created in partnership with the Victoria and Albert Museum, takes inspiration from the book's original illustrations by Sir John Tenniel. It's part of a two-piece set offered by The Royal Mint, the second celebrating Carroll's sequel: Through The Looking Glass. The reverse (tails) of this coin features the grinning Cheshire Cat whom Alice encounters first in chapter six, directing her to the March Hare's house. Alice herself is seen from behind in this design, adapted for coinage by Royal Mint product designer Ffion Gwillim. The obverse features Jody Clark's portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II, the fifth and last definitive effigy of her used on UK coinage. This coin is composed of 28.28 grams of cupronickel, struck twice during production to give it a BUnc finish. The diameter of this Crown coin is 38.61 millimetres and the face value is £5. It's offered in its original presentation slipcase from The Royal Mint, which has a built-in protective capsule and interesting details about the Alice in Wonderland saga.
