A special edition BU Remembrance Day Five Pound coin was issued by the Royal Mint to specifically mark the 100th anniversary of the burial of the 'Unknown Warrior'. Remembrance Day, or Poppy Day, is observed on the 11th November each year to recall the armistice which ended the fighting on the western front in the First World War. It differs slightly from Remembrance Sunday in that it's always held on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. A year after the first Remembrance Day, the idea mentioned by the Reverend David Railton was put into motion. An unknown British soldier, known only to God, was exhumed from the battlefields of France and transported back to Britain. He was given a state funeral and buried at Westminster Abbey, taking his final resting place among the kings. The designer of this coin's reverse, Natasha Preece, pays tribute to the Unknown Warrior with a coloured background of red poppies and an outline of an anonymous British Army infantryman, head bowed. Preece's reverse is paired with Jody Clark's portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, in use since 2015. The coin weighs 28.28 grams and has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. You'll receive your limited edition pre-owned UK coin complete in the original poppy-themed slipcase, which has been specifically designed for the brilliant uncirculated version.
