2020 British Red Cross Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Mint Pack Coin
Founded in 1870, the British Red Cross is a charity that helps those in need worldwide. In 2020, the Royal Mint marked the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the British Red Cross with the release of several commemorative Five Pound coins. It was originally founded as the British National Society for Aid to the Sick and Wounded in War and took up its current name in 1905, and was granted its first royal charter by King Edward VII in 1908. The Red Cross' founding purpose was to help the sick and wounded on both sides of a conflict, and as time has passed its role has expanded to include relief efforts in areas affected by natural disasters and poverty. The artist Henry Gray was responsible for designing the coin's reverse side, which shows an outline of the British Isles with a superimposed red cross placed in the centre. For added effect, the red cross is coloured to make it stand out. The obverse shows the fifth UK coin portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, as designed by Jody Clark.
