The Royal Mint features the carnivorous Megalosaurus on this BU 50p. This Megalosaurus edition is one design in the three-coin Dinosauria Collection, produced in collaboration with the Natural History Museum. Renowned Paleo-artist Robert Nicholls designed the reverse down to the grisly detail of scarring around the Megalosaurus' sharp teeth. Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II's final definitive portrait, by Jody Clark, is found on this Fifty Pence coin's obverse. Struck in 8.00 grams of cupronickel and sporting a 27.30 millimetre diameter, the Megalosaurus coin is finished to BUnc quality. This pre-owned Tales of the Earth coin ships in the original folder, meaning this formidable predator is thankfully contained within the protective capsule! Alongside imagery backed by current science, information about revered palaeontologist William Buckland's fearsome discovery can be enjoyed within. The Dinosauria Collection is no longer available from the Mint, but the coins remain entertaining collectable pieces for natural history fans worldwide.
