2020 Mayflower 400th Anniversary Two Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder
This brilliant uncirculated 2020 Two Pound coin celebrates the 400th anniversary of the Pilgrim's historic journey from England to North America. A group of 102 men, women and children crossed the Atlantic in a ship called the Mayflower in a gruelling ten-week voyage, arriving in the New World in November 1620. They landed near Cape Cod, in the modern-day US state of Massachusetts. As one of the earliest colonial vessels, this Mayflower has become a cultural icon in the history of the United States and it's the focus of this collectable UK £2 coin. Chris Costello, a Massachusetts-based coin designer who has previously worked for both the US Mint and The Royal Mint, was commissioned to design the reverse. It shows the famous masted ship at sea, with the North Star visible to the left, aiding the ship's navigation across unknown waters. On the coin's edge, the lettering reads 'UNDERTAKEN FOR THE GLORY OF GOD'. A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II is seen on the obverse, designed by Jody Clark. It's the fifth and final UK coin effigy of Her Majesty. This collectable coin is the same size and weight as a standard British Two Pound coin (12.00 grams and 28.40 millimetres diameter). The finish of this coin is brilliant uncirculated or 'BU', a superior standard compared to the coins you'd find in your change. This pre-owned Mayflower coin comes in the original limited edition packaging from the Royal Mint, which includes a built-in protective capsule and interesting information about the Pilgrims and the Mayflower.
