In 2019, the fine china company Wedgwood celebrated 260 years since its founding in 1759, and to commemorate the occasion The Royal Mint issued a premium collection of Two Pound coins. This piece is the brilliant uncirculated edition, struck two times during the production process to give it fine finish, vastly superior to the coins found in your change. Josiah Wedgwood FRS was an English potter and entrepreneur, who in the 18th century spotted a gap in the market for Staffordshire pottery. His company revolutionised the industry, with his products proving incredibly popular. The company remains successful today and in 1995 were granted a Royal Warrant by Queen Elizabeth II. Her portrait appears on the obverse of this coin, as designed by British artist Jody Clark. The reverse features the iconic Portland Vase: a remarkable Roman cameo glass vase, successfully reproduced by Wedgwood in his distinctive jasperware in 1790. Rendered by the Wedgwood company engraving team, this stunning design is accompanied by an inscription around the golden edge that reads 'WEDGWOOD' and the anniversary dates: 1759-2019. On the coin's edge, the inscription reads 'EVERYTHING GIVES WAY TO EXPERIMENT'. This pre-owned coin is the same size as a standard circulating Two Pound and is made of the same metal alloy. The attractive brilliant uncirculated finish is protected by a presentation sleeve, packed with information about Wedgwood.
