2019 Wallace And Gromit Fifty Pence Brilliant Uncirculated Coin
With five British Academy Film Awards, three Academy Awards and a Peabody Award under their belt, Nick Park and Aardman Animations' loveable characters are not only charming and funny, but also widely successful. Wallace is best known for his love of cheese and crackers, particularly Wednesleydale, and for his various wild and wacky inventions. His dog Gromit meanwhile, is incredibly intelligent having graduated with a degree in Engineering for Dogs. From 'A Grand Day Out' in 1989 to 'A Matter of Loaf and Death' in 2008, Wallace and Gromit's adventures have a timeless humour that has captivated audiences for over thirty years. To celebrate three decades of these characters, The Royal Mint released a series of special commemorative coins, inlcuding this Brilliant Uncirculated edition. On the reverse is a design by Nick Park, featuring a close-up of Wallace and Gromit, the former looking at his dog with affection while Gromit expresses surprise. It is surrounded by a ring with studs in to represent Wallace's inventions alongwith their names and the phrase 'CASIUS PRAESTANS' which transaltes to 'cracking cheese.' On this collectible coin the ‘heads’ side features the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Her Majesty the Queen by Jody Clark which has been in use since 2015. One of a limited ediition, this coin weighs 8.00 grams and has a diameter of 27.30 milimetres. It’s finished to BU standard which means it retains the shine and definition of design that circulated coins have lost.
