BUnc £2 RAF Vulcan coin in original folder. In 2018 the Royal Air Force celebrated the 100th anniversary of its establishment. To mark this centenary, The Royal Mint released a series of brilliant uncirculated Two Pound coins celebrating the RAF's fascinating story since its foundation during the last months of the First World War. Alongside coins featuring familiar aircraft such as the Spitfire, Sea King, and Lightning, was this piece features the Cold War-era Vulcan bomber. The Vulcan first flew in 1952 and became the epitome of power. It was part of the UK's nuclear deterrent from 1956 until 1984, when the Polaris submarine system replaced it. The Vulcan's final operations were during the Falklands War where it took a 6,800 mile round trip to compromise the runway of Port Stanley. Pilots remember the aircraft fondly, from its high power and manoeuvrability to the speed in which it could be readied in an emergency. The reverse of this celebratory coin - designed by Neil and Robert Talbot - shows a Vulcan bomber in flight with the centenary dates and 'VULCAN RAF' inscribed around the coin's edge. This unique design is paired with Jody Clark's effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse. This highly collectable Two Pound coin is issued in a limited edition presentation coin sleeve and is struck to BUnc standard in 12.00 grams of base metal alloy. A marvellous gift idea for any aviation memorabilia enthusiast or coin collector. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
