Continuing on from the successful release of the Beatrix Potter 50 Pence coin in 2016 and 2017, the Royal Mint issued another four Beatrix Potter 50 Pence coins in 2018. This BU coin shows one of Potter's favourite characters: the Tailor of Gloucester. The Tailor's story was first printed privately by Potter herself in 1902, with the trade publication by Frederick Warne & Co. coming in October 1903. In this Little Tale, mice finish the work of a tailor in gratitude for being rescued from his cat. Potter studied real 18th-century costumes to depict the garments the mice stitch. The design for the coin's reverse features a bespectacled mouse, perched on a cotton reel, studiously examining a newspaper. Like all other Beatrix Potter 50p coins, it was designed by Emma Noble. She was inspired by the drawing that appears on the cover of the first edition of this popular story and beautifully recreates it on the 'tails' side of this collectable coin. On the obverse, Jody Clark's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II can be seen. It's the fifth definitive UK coin image of Her Majesty. The coin is struck twice to give a brilliant uncirculated finish, weighs 8.00 grams and measures 27.30 millimetres in diameter. You'll receive your coin complete with a limited edition Royal Mint slipcase, which has a protective coin capsule built into the packaging.
