The Royal Mint joined forces with the Imperial War Museum in 2018 to release a collection of commemorative Five Pound coins, with this edition being the cupro-nickel brilliant uncirculated version. It coincides with the 100th anniversary of the armistice which bring the fighting to an end on the western front in the First World War. The reverse of the coin is quite simple; it's designed to invoke the thoughts of remembrance of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice during times of war. It plainly shows a fraction of a blood-coloured poppy, which is synonymous with the Royal British Legion. Poppies were first worn in the United Kingdom after the end of the Great War and have become a symbol for remembering the war dead ever since. The text on this reverse design reads 'REMEMBRANCE' and was designed by artist Laura Clancy. On the obverse, the coin is graced with a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. This pre-owned coin weighs 28.28 grams, measures 38.61 millimetres in diameter and is offered in the original limited edition packaging. A wonderful way to honour the memory of the fallen.
