2018 Four Generations Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Mint Pack Coin
With the birth of Prince William's and Princess Catherine's son George in 2013, a period began where there were four generations of the Royal Family alive at the same time. This last happened during the reign of Queen Victoria, and occurred between 1894 and 1901. This Royal Mint BU Five Pound coin marks this incredibly rare occurrence. Experienced coin engraver Timothy Noad was tasked with designing the reverse of this commemorative piece, and he decided on a traditional heraldic design encompassing the initials of Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince George. There are three crowns above the motif, with two oak branches underneath. The obverse shows the timeless UK coin portrait of the Queen, designed by Jody Clark. It's the fifth effigy of Her Majesty to appear on British coinage. This collector's piece weighs 28.28 grams, has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and is issued in the original Royal Mint packaging, which consists of a coin slipcase. It's struck twice during production, giving it a brilliant uncirculated finish, which is a superior standard to the coins found in normal circulating change.
