2018 Sapphire Jubilee Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Mint Pack Coin
In 2018, Queen Elizabeth II celebrated 65 years since her official coronation. In honour of this Sapphire anniversary milestone, the Royal Mint released a collection of commemorative Five Pound coins, with this edition being the brilliant uncirculated coin struck in cupro-nickel. It follows the release of the coin series celebrating her Sapphire Jubilee in 2017. Elizabeth II succeeded her father, King George VI in February 1952 when she on a royal engagement in the Protectorate of Kenya and was formally crowned at her coronation 16 months later in June 1953, aged 27. The Queen's most recent portrait by Royal Mint engraver Jody Clark graces the obverse of the coin, which is the fifth official engraving of her used on British coinage. The reverse shows the royal arms shield, in a one-off design by Royal Mint graphic designer Stephen Taylor. He places the Queen's royal cypher above the shield and surrounds it with oak branches and the coronet. The inscription around the design reads 'SAPPHIRE ANNIVERSARY 1953 2018'.
