2018 Prince Charles 70th Birthday Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Mint Pack Coin
The Royal Mint issued a special commemorative Five Pound coin in 2018 to celebrate the 70th birthday of Charles, Prince of Wales. 2018 was an eventful year for the first-born son of Queen Elizabeth II and Price Philip, with the marriage of his son Prince Harry to Meghan Markle and the birth of his second grandson, Prince Louis. Prince Charles is the longest-serving heir apparent in British history, having waited over 70 years before ascending the British throne. Unusually for this coin, Prince Charles is seen facing to the right on the reverse, whereas coins depicted with his effigy as King face to the left, which follows royal tradition. It was engraved by Robert Elderton and differs from the Martin Jennings engraving used on UK coins from 2022 onwards. The obverse shows Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Jody Clark. The specifications of the coin itself are a weight of 28.28 grams, a diameter of 38.61 millimetres and a top-quality brilliant uncirculated finish. On top of that, the collectable cupro-nickel coin is housed in a colourful limited edition folder, which makes it the perfect gift option for followers of the royal family.
