With the great popularity of The Royal Mint’s first series of Beatrix Potter commemorative designs in 2016, another set of four Fifty Pence pieces were released by in 2017. These celebrate four more of the author’s ‘Little Tales’ characters, including this coloured, BU coin which features a recognisable image of Peter Rabbit hopping away on adventures and getting into trouble with the legend ‘THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT’. Originally written as illustrated story letters for the children of her friend, and former governess, Beatrix Potter’s stories were made all the more special by her watercolour illustrations and the immersive world she created. Peter Rabbit not only features in his own tales, but appeared in five other stories, such as The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, in his iconic blue jacket and often munching on a carrot. Beatrix Potter was inspired by her childhood with many pets and adventures of her own. She’s best known for her ‘Little Tales’ but was also a well respected mycologist, renown for her watercolours of fungi. She invested her funds into buying and conserving land and property in her beloved Lake District, the majority of which was gifted to the National Trust after her death in 1943. On the opposite side of the coin to Peter Rabbit, is Jody Clark’s 2015 portrait of The Queen. This Fifty Pence coin comes in its original fold out display folder which features information about the author and the design. A limited edition piece, its made of 8.00 grams of cupronickel with a collector’s BUNC finish. System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String] System.Threading.Tasks.Task`1[System.String]
