Following on from the incredibly successful release of the Beatrix Potter 50 Pence coin series in 2016, The Royal Mint announced another four 50p coins were to be released in 2017. This UK coin celebrates The Tale of Benjamin Bunny, which was published by Frederick Warne & Co in September 1904 and is the sequel to The Tale of Peter Rabbit. In this story, Benjamin Bunny and Peter Rabbit adventure into Mr McGregor's garden to retrieve Peter's clothes which were left there in the prequel. They are trapped in a corner by a cat for five hours, and Old Mr Bunny has to come to rescue them. Like the 2016 Beatrix Potter coins, Emma Noble is responsible for designing the reverse. It shows Benjamin Bunny dressed in his smart brown jacket and lop-sided tam-o-shanter, holding a vegetable in his left hand. The coin's obverse features Queen Elizabeth II as designed by Jody Clark; this is the fifth definitive UK coin image of Her Majesty. Struck in an cupro-nickel and weighing 8 grams, this coin is issued in a limited edition coin slipcase case with additional information about Beatrix Potter and photographs of her work.
