2016 Beatrix Potter 150th Anniversary Fifty Pence Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder
2016 marked the 150th anniversary of the birth of the children's author and illustrator, Beatrix Potter. To celebrate the occasion, the Royal Mint released a series of commemorative 50 Pence coins, with this version being the brilliant uncirculated cupro-nickel edition. This is the very first coin in the Royal Mint's sought-after series, which features beloved characters from Potter's stories. Unlike the subsequent releases, this Fifty Pence piece is a dedicated tribute to Potter herself. She's best known for her 'Little Tales' but Beatrix Potter was also a well-respected mycologist, renowned for her watercolours of fungi. The success of her books was partly down to a shrewd marketing strategy. She put the funds into land and property in the Lake District, the majority of which was gifted to the National Trust after her death in 1943. Emma Noble's design for this 2016 coin pays tribute to Potter as an author, artist, scientist and conservationist. It features a silhouette portrait, curling vines and the instantly recognisable image of Peter Rabbit, her most famous creation. The lettering reads 'BEATRIX POTTER 1866 1943'. On the obverse side of this collectable pre-owned coin features the fifth definitive coinage portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark. Specifications are a weight of 8.00 grams and a diameter of 27.30 millimetres. Included is a coin slipcase, full of information about Beatrix Potter and her little creations.
