2015 Sir Winston Churchill Twenty Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Silver Coin In Folder
The Royal Mint issued two types of commemorative Twenty Pound coin in 2015, one of them being this BU Winston Churchill £20 coin. 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the death of arguably the greatest Briton who ever lived, and The Mint issued two coin types to commemorate his life. On this 0.999 fine silver UK coin, artist Etienne Millner took inspiration from the most iconic image of Churchill - Yousuf Karsh's 'Roaring Lion' photographic portrait of the wartime prime minister at the Canadian Parliament in 1941. He masterfully engraved it onto the reverse of this £20 coin and places the text 'CHURCHILL' underneath it, recreating the font used on the 1965 crown that was issued on Churchill's death. Like the 1965 crown, the obverse shows the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Ian Rank Broadley. This is the fourth definitive portrait of The Queen on UK coinage, and is one of the last times it features before the fifth head by Jody Clark is adopted. Each coin comes presented in an informative slipcase, with a coloured photograph of Churchill giving the famous 'V' sign. Specifications of the coin are a fine silver weight of just over half a troy ounce (15.69 grams) and a diameter of 27.00 millimetres. An excellent gift idea for any coin collector.
