2012 Titanic Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Alderney Mint Pack Coin
An Alderney £5 coin struck by The Royal Mint to mark the centenary year of the Titanic disaster. The fate of the luxury liner has been infamous now for over a century, and this commemorative coin marks a significant milestone. Lee R Jones' reverse design incorporates both the Titanic itself as well as Thane, a representation of Belfast's 'Men Memorial'. Thane, said to be a female representation of Thanatos in Greek mythology, is contrasted by Elizabeth II on the obverse in Ian Rank-Broadley's design. This Titanic coin is struck in 28.28 grams of cupronickel alloy and holds a 38.61 millimetre diameter. Alongside the capsuled UK coin is the Royal Mint illustrated folder complete with an overview of the Titanic from its construction to its downfall.
