2000 Millennium Five Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Mint Pack Coin
In 2000, the Royal Mint released a selection of commemorative Five Pound coins to celebrate entering the third millennium AD. They complement the Five Pound coins issued the year before, which have exactly the same design except on the obverse with the year date 1999. This version on offer is the BU edition, which is struck twice to give a higher quality coin that typically found in your change. On the reverse, a simple yet striking clock design is visible, with the clock hands pointing to the very top of the coin, signifying midnight. On either side of the clock hands are the years 1999 and 2000, with an outline of the British Isles placed in the centre with the text 'ANNO DOMINI'. This clever engraving was the work of Jeffery Matthews, the noted stamp designer. The obverse shows the traditional portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, by Ian Rank-Broadley. It's her fourth portrait to feature on UK coinage. William Shakespeare is quoted on the edge of the coin, with the inscription reading 'WHAT'S PAST IS PROLOGUE'. The coin weighs 28.28 grams and has a diameter of 38.61 millimetres. You'll receive your limited edition coin complete in the original Royal Mint slipcase, which has been specifically designed for the brilliant uncirculated version.
