1999 Scottish Lion UK One Pound. The lion rampant was a popular feature on Scottish coinage until the Act of Union of 1707 brought England and Scotland together. The Royal Mint released this Scottish One Pound in 1999 in a variety of formats, including this brilliant uncirculated version. Its reverse design, by Norman Sillman, features the lion rampant surrounded by a decorative ring with the denomination 'ONE POUND' below. This design was first used in 1994 as part of a four-part series of heraldic designs representing the four Home Nations. On the obverse is Ian Rank-Broadley’s fourth official portrait of The Queen. This BU version is struck in a nickel-brass alloy and is one of a limited edition issued in this presentation pack.
