Collectible, bi-metallic 1997 brilliant uncirculated Two Pound coin from The Royal Mint, sealed in its original presentation folder. Bimetallic £2 coins would enter circulation in the UK in 1998. This special edition piece shows the design by Bruce Rushin that would become so familiar to us. Used on most of these coins until 2015, it symbolises the history of technological development from the Iron Age, through the Industrial Revolution and into the age of the Internet. The date appears in the outer ring which is composed of nickel-brass while the inner circle is made of cupronickel. Like circulating editions, this coin bears an edge inscription that reads 'STANDING ON THE SHOULDERS OF GIANTS', taken from a letter by Isaac Newton. These 1997 BUNc editions feature Raphael Maklouf's portrait of Queen Elizabeth II to the obverse: the third official effigy used on British coins. This is the only UK bi-metallic 2 Pound coin to feature Maklouf's portrait which was replaced in the following year with a new one by Ian Rank-Broadley. This coin has an attractive, brilliant uncirculated finish which offers a higher level of detail than regular, circulating coins. It comes sealed in its original card presentation folder which contains additional information about this historic anniversary.
