1986 Commonwealth Games Edinburgh Two Pound Brilliant Uncirculated Coin In Folder
BUnc Commonwealth Games Two Pound in original Royal Mint packaging. The thirteenth Commonwealth Games opened in Edinburgh on 24 July 1986. The games were the second to be held in Edinburgh and welcomed 1,660 athletes from 27 different countries. This Two Pound brilliant uncirculated coin, released to mark the occasion, was the first commemorative coin with a sporting theme issued by The Royal Mint. The obverse shows a portrait of Elizabeth II by Raphael Maklouf. The reverse features a design by British sculptor Norman Sillman which includes a Scottish thistle overlaid on Saint Andrew's cross: both instantly recognisable symbols of Scotland. A great addition to any collection of Scottish or sporting memorabilia, this coin is struck in 15.98 grams and produced in a nickel-brass alloy. The BU finish is in a much higher quality than standard UK coins, meaning the details are more visible and the finish shinier. From a limited issue, this old-style £2 comes in its original presentation sleeve, printed with information about the Games and brilliant uncirculated Royal Mint coins.
