The 1999 Zambian African Elephant bullion coin is the first in this widely collected series of investment coins, struck in Germany on behalf of the issuing state. While these early examples were struck for Zambia, the Somali Republic took over the series from 2004. The series, much like wildlife bullion from Australia, changes the reverse design yearly, and in 1999 the coin depicts an adult elephant drinking with its offspring.
