1771 Gold Guinea Coin George III

This gold coin features the third bust of George III on the obverse along with the text GEORGIVS III DEI GRATIA (George III by the grace of God) and a Crowned Shield of Arms, Lion of Nassau at the centre on the reverse, with the wording M B F ET H REX F D B ET L D S R I A T ET E and the date of 1771. You will receive the actual coin pictured. George III was the third Hanoverian King of Great Britain. His life as been well documented as he was known as the mad King after his illness got the better of him in 1810. It is now believed that he was suffering from porphyria. This shield back guinea is not so well known as the more common spade type. These first type guineas which were minted between 1763-1786, has an ornate shield on the reverse. A little scarcer as well. In good fine condition.
