If you haven’t taken notice of the Rwandan Nautical Ounce Series yet, now is the time to stand at attention. The 2023 release features the famous Great Eastern. **Coin Highlights:** - Arrives in plastic pouches or mint-sealed sheets of 10 coins! - 7th issue in the Rwandan Nautical Ounce Series! - Contains 1 Troy oz of .999 pure silver in BU condition. - Bears a face value of 50 Francs (RWF) backed by the Bank of Rwanda. - Rwandan coat of arms on the obverse. - Great Eastern on the reverse. The new "NAUTICAL OUNCE® 2023" is in honor of the world-famous steel sailing steamer "Great Eastern" today. Until 1901, the "Great Eastern" was by far the largest ship ever built in the world with a length of 211 meters. Due to its design, the sailing steamer was far ahead of its time. The "Great Eastern" gained real significance with the laying of the first functioning transatlantic cable (1866). This made it possible for the first time to exchange telegrams between America and Europe in real time using Morse code. In the obverse design, you will find the image of the Great Eastern in sail with a stylized compass in the background. The inscriptions "Great Eastern," “2023,” nautical instruments and the purity are listed along the rim. For the reverse face you will find the image of the national coat of arms for the Republic of Rwanda. The design shows a traditional basket flanked by branches of coffee and sorghum. Inscriptions on this side are in Swahili.
