A Liberty head Gold $20 Double Eagle from 1869, minted in San Francisco. The American Double Eagle has a face value of $20. It is 0.9675 troy-ounce of fine gold. Issued from 1849 to 1907, this $20 Double Eagle features the Liberty head design. **You will receive the actual coin pictured.**. September 1869 saw "Black Friday", which was the result of two Gold Speculators, Jay Gould and James Fisk attempting to corner the gold market by buying as much gold as they could without selling it. This increased the price of gold in the market, until the scheme was discovered by US President Ulysses Grant - he then ordered the US Treasury to sell $4 million of Gold back to the market, which made the price drop significantly which took away any advantage gained by Gould and Fisk.
