He would spend most of the years of his life helping the North to survive the Civil War. Lincoln is famous for trying to resolve the tensions and heal the war-torn US after his re-election. His efforts were cut short by his assassination by John Wilkes Booth in 1865 at Ford’s Theatre in Washington D.C.
