The Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) is known around the world for their fine silver and gold maple leaf coins. Designed by Walter Ott, an Austrian trained Master Engraver and Chief Engraver of the RCM, the series carries a detailed image of a single, perfect sugar maple leaf. From 1979 until today, this design remains entirely unchanged. However, for the very first time in history, Walter Ott’s iconic design has been re-sculpted in . But who could be trusted to add relief to such a prestigious design while staying true to the original art? The obvious choice would be the Master engraver Ott himself, but unfortunately the artist was in poor health and passed away in 2021. A Canadian artist must be used, and only one person had the skill and experience to master the task – retired Senior Engraver of the RCM, Susan Taylor. Taylor is one of the foremost artists in the world when it comes to sculpting UHR coin designs (as evident from her work on the 2019 Peace & Liberty Medal). Further, Taylor actually worked under Walter Ott during his tenure at the Royal Canadian Mint. The relief of these maples ranges from just under 5x higher than a typical SML on the 1oz Silver, to up to 10x higher on the 5oz Silver. All sizes are available for purchase graded by NGC as PF70 with the prestigious First Day of Issue or First Day of Production designations. These options were slabbed with NGC labels signed by Susan Taylor. #### **DESIGN** The reverse features Walter Ott’s Iconic the iconic Sugar Maple Leaf design, unchanged since its creation in 1979, but resculpted in UHR by Susan Taylor.“*Walter's Maple Leaf design is an iconic symbol of Canada. Just like the iconic maple leaf on the Canadian flag, Walter's Maple Leaf design represents Canada to everyone around the world.”* - Susan Taylor Inscriptions include: CANADA | 9999 | 9999 | FINE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR (or FINE SILVER 1 OZ/ 5 OZ ARGENT PUR) The obverse features Susanna Blunt’s well-known effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as seen in Canadian coinage since 2003. This side of the design is not UHR. Inscriptions include: ELIZABETH II | 20/50/200 DOLLARS | 2022 **KEY FEATURES** - World’s first UHR SMLs and GMLs. - Up to 10x higher relief than a typical 1oz SML. - Uses original design created by the last Chief Engraver of the RCM, Walter Ott. - Re-sculpted in UHR by retired RCM Senior Engraver Susan Taylor. - Highly Limited mintages, and even more limited populations. - Labels hand signed by Susan Taylor.
