The colorful motive shows a depiction of the girl on a ship, looking through a telescope. Her best friend and playmate, the monkey, sits on her shoulder and her red hair is tied into two braids. The girl's colorful clothing consisting of a patched dress, two stockings of different colors and two boots with laces of different colors, is particularly striking. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and year of issue. The edge of the coin is framed by an elongated striped stocking. "Monkey Girl" is a sassy and playful girl, meant to remind us to remember the lightness and carefree nature of being a child, even in adulthood. The girl is solely concerned with her own joy and does not waste a thought on what other people might think about her behavior.
