The motive was partially minted in color and picks up on the witch's gingerbread house in the forest, covered with confectionery, a central element of the tale. The siblings Hansel and Gretel, unable to resist the sweet temptation, are also depicted and about to enter the house of the sinister witch. The reverse shows the coat of arms of Niue as well as the denomination and year of issue. Along the edge of the coin are numerous types of cookies, some of which are also colorfully decorated. "Hansel and Gretel" is about two children who are abandoned in the forest by their own parents and encounter a malicious witch who has the goal of fattening and eating the children. The fairy tale thematizes various primal fears of children and how they can be conquered. The siblings, thanks to their ingenuity, intelligence and ability to repeatedly deceive the witch, eventually triumph over her, burn her in her own oven and regain their freedom.
