The reverse of the Death Star™ DS-1 features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and year of issue. The Death Star™ DS-2 shows the coat of arms of Niue on the reverse as well as the denomination and the year of issue. **Death Star™ DS-1** was a mobile battle station under the command of the Galactic Empire™ whose planning began before the outbreak of the Clone Wars. The firepower of its built-in superlaser was enough to destroy an entire planet in one fell swoop. Before the destruction of this first Death Star™ by the Rebel Alliance™, the planet Alderaan fell victim to it, with all its inhabitants. For the Empire, the Death Star™, with its massive military punch, was intended primarily as a deterrent, spreading paralyzing fear to ensure Emperor Palpatine's reign of terror. After the first Death Star™ had been destroyed by Luke Skywalker™, the Empire began construction of a second, even more dangerous Death Star™ in "Return of the Jedi™", which was located near the forest moon of Endor and protected from attack by a shield. Like its predecessor, **Death Star™ DS-2** served as a potential planet destroyer for the purpose of deterrence and absolute demonstration of the Empire's power. By destroying the second Death Star's protective shield generator and main reactor, the Rebel Alliance succeeded in the Battle of Endor in destroying the second mobile battle station as well, thus laying the foundation for the emergence of the new Republic.
