### Women in History (2.) - Boudicca 1 Oz Silver - Proof - in Color - 2nd Issue of the new 'Women in History' Series - Motive in Color - Mintage only 2,000 pieces - With Certificate of Authenticity - Delivery in original Box The new **Women in History** Series is a tribute to those women who have achieved amazing things and shaped history. The second issue is dedicated to **Boudicca**, the Celtic queen and legendary military leader of the Icenians. Struck by the **New Zealand Mint** from one ounce of 99.9% **silver** in proof quality, the motive features a a detailed image of Boudicca. The background depicts a scene of Boudicca commanding her army and leading them into battle. Also included in the design are the inscription "BOUDICCA" and the weight and fineness. The reverse shows the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II as well as the monetary denomination and the year of issue. **Boudicca** was the wife of King Prasutagus and is described in tradition as an extraordinarily tall woman with a fearsome, piercing gaze, long hair and sturdy build. She is considered a national icon and folk heroine in British history. After the inhabitants of England were physically and economically exploited as a result of the Roman invasion, a rebellion against Roman rule occurred around 60 AD under the leadership of Boudicca. During the rebellion, the Celtic tribes of Icenians and Trinovantes massacred an estimated 70,000 Roman soldiers and settlers and were nearly successful in driving the Romans from the island. Ultimately, the effort failed - the rebellion was crushed by the legion of the governor Gaius Suetonius Paulinus, as well as numerous auxiliary Roman troops. Boudicca is said to have poisoned herself afterwards or to have died of illness. Limited to 2,000 pieces worldwide, the **Women in History - Boudicca silver proof coin in color** is delivered in the original box including a certificate of authenticity.
