This special limited-edition set for kids features a curved Basketball Hall of Fame Enhanced Uncirculated Half Dollar that is only available when you purchase this set! Kids ages 7-12 will marvel at the beauty and artistry of the clad coin’s enhanced uncirculated finish and its shiny details. With this set, they will also join some of the Mighty Minters™ in a basketball quiz while learning all about the sport with dynamic images and lively content about its history. The design of this Basketball Hall of Fame Enhanced Uncirculated Half Dollar featured in these special Kids Set was created using a new advanced technique to laser polish some of its design elements while preserving the intricate details. Some areas of the enhanced uncirculated finish have a brighter sheen than a standard uncirculated coin but not the full mirror-like appearance of a proof coin. Obverse: The design portrays the intense, hands-on action of the game-the constant struggle for possession of the ball and the skill required to overcome the opponent and put the ball through the hoop. The design features three different figures all reaching for the ball in unison, suggesting how the sport has brought together millions of diverse people around the world through a simple, universal, and unifying athletic experience. Their arms are intentionally elongated, just slightly, to emphasize the full exertion of physical and mental effort required to excel in the game. The rim and net are presented as subtle background elements to complement the primary figures. Inscriptions are “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “2020.” Reverse: This design depicts a basketball about to pass through a net, with the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “HALF DOLLAR.” Surcharges in the amount of $5 for each clad half dollar coin sold are authorized to be paid to Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to fund an endowment that will enable its increased operations and educational programming.
