The coin was struck by the **New Zealand Mint** from one ounce of 99.9% silver. "Aurora™" was released back in 1959 and was the 16th full-length production by Walt Disney™ Studios. The motive depicts Princess Aurora™ dancing gracefully through the forest, surrounded by numerous animal friends. While Aurora™, the forest and some animals are depicted in color, other animals and elements appear in frosted silver. The wording "Aurora" is also included in the design. The reverse features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the denomination and the year of issue. "Aurora™" is based on the story "La Belle au Bois dormant" (The Sleeping Beauty in the Woods) by Charles Perrault. The film tells the story of Princess Aurora™, to whose christening all fairies are invited with the exception of the dark fairy "Malefiz™". Malefiz appears nevertheless and curses the princess - on her 16th birthday she should prick her finger with a spindle and die of it. However, another fairy is able to change the death curse so that Aurora™ falls into a deep sleep after pricking herself with the spindle. From this deep sleep, only "true love's kiss" can awaken her.
