The coin was struck by the **New Zealand Mint** from one ounce of 99.9% silver in Antique Finish. The partially colored motive features an impressive image of the Stegosaurus in front of a prehistoric landscape. The inscription "STEGOSAURUS" is also included in the design. The reverse depicts the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as the denomination and the year of issue. The Stegosaurus could reach a body length of up to 9 meters. Features that were particularly characteristic for this dinosaur were the double-rowed bone plates that ran along its back and the spiked tail. The herbivore colonized the earth about 155 to 140 million years ago.
